TREASURE COAST GATOR CLUB TO CONFER NEARLY $20,000
Contributed by: Robin Koestoyo on 6/11/2008

Treasure Coast Gator Club® officials will confer nearly $20,000 in scholarship funds to 13 graduating senior high school and college students who live throughout the Treasure Coast region. The merit awards will be presented to recipients during the Treasure Coast Gator Club® Dinner & Scholarship Awards event to be held June 19, 2008, 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m., at Pelican Yacht Club in Fort Pierce.

"On behalf of the Treasure Coast Gator Club® and our four funding sources, it is with great honor and pride that we bestow these accomplished students with the gift of education," said Linda Robertson, Treasure Coast Gator Club® Scholarship Chair. "In addition to graduating high school seniors, for the first time, the club opened opportunities for current University of Florida students and students transferring from a community college to UF."

Robertson said a total of 40 applications were submitted to the club's scholarship committee, the highest number of submissions made in the club's scholarship program history, all of which were outstanding. The committee reviewed applicants for academics, work ethic and financial need; permanent residency in St. Lucie or Indian River County was a requirement. Two of the scholarship funding sources, The Bryan Schirard Memorial Scholarship Fund and The Riverside Bank Mac Varn Memorial Scholarship, gave preference to UF College of Agricultural and Life Sciences majors, including the local UF/IFAS Indian River Research and Education Center campus. The two memorial scholarships are tributes to individuals who led the prominent local agricultural industry.

Each of the 13 scholarship recipients will receive $1,500 awards for college expenses.

Treasure Coast Gator Club® Scholar recipients are Kawani Hill, from Lincoln Park Academy; Christopher Mallon and Alison Schmeer, from St. Lucie West Centennial High School, and Kimberly Schmitt, from Treasure Coast High School. Bryan Schirard Memorial Scholars are Kelsey Lynn Gordan and Kelsey Munyan, from Lincoln Park Academy, and Cynthia Musgrave and Pierre Maurice Revange, from the local University of Florida Indian River Research and Education Center.

Jorge Alberta Luna, from the UF/IFAS Indian River Research and Education Center, is the single recipient of the Riverside Bank/Mac Varn Scholar Award.

In honor of Vero Beach philanthropists Arthur and Marian Block, Arthur and Marian Block Scholar recipients are Kelsey Bang-Olsen and Aimee Kouns, from Vero Beach High School, and Esten Peirce and Sarah Waickowski, from Sebastian River High School. The Treasure Coast Gator Club® has distributed a total of $56,000 dollars in scholarship funding to 56 Treasure Coast residents since 2001. The Treasure Coast Gator Club ®, serving over 4,000 alumni and friends throughout its namesake's region, was founded in 1981.

To attend the Treasure Coast Gator Club® Dinner & Scholarship Awards event on June 19, ticket forms may be obtained at their website www.tcgatorclub.com, or contact the club at: PO Box 643839, Vero Beach, FL 32964
