HELP NEEDED FOR FLOOD VICTIMS
Contributed by: Teri Pinney on 10/20/2009

When Hurricane Ketsana struck the Philippines last month, it affected the lives of 450,000 people. The storm battered Manila and the surrounding towns. More than 300 people were killed with 80% of the city submerged in water. Estimated damages have hit over $100 million, where infrastructures and buildings were devastated by the storm.

The country's food supply is now under threat. Once Ketsana left, another typhoon, Parma, arrived destroying crops. Worldwide help is being sought---and the Philippine American Association of the Treasure Coast is responding.

Rallying to send monetary assistance and donations, the PhilAm of TC is holding a block yard sale on Saturday, November 14 from 8:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, November 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Their Youth Group will also be having a BBQ-Hot dog sale and a car wash.

Location for this event will be at the Fort Pierce Medical Center,1801 S 23rd Street (across from Lawnwood Elementary School).

The public is asked to support this cause. Much-needed summer clothing, shoes, towels, and linens for the flood victims are also being collected.

Contact Norma Nycum at (772) 584-2455 or mail your checks to the Philippine American Association of the Treasure Coast, PO Box 13266, Fort Pierce, FL 34979-3266.
