The Indian River County Sheriff Office volunteers set the standard by recording over 38,000 hours in 2007. Sheriff Roy Raymond commended these men and women for their service in various areas such as Patrol Unit, Courthouse, Victim Advocates and vehicle lockouts. See below for a breakdown of the number of volunteer hours given.
• 34,000 volunteer hours by the Patrol Unit
• 1,042 volunteer hours at the Courthouse
• 1,055 volunteer hours from Victim Advocates
• 1,776 volunteer hours from Mall Substation Volunteer
These volunteers are an invaluable asset to the Sheriff's Office and the community. The services they provide free up the agency's deputies time allowing them to focus on other tasks and responsibilities.
Some of the other duties performed are as follows:
• 30,052 man hours doing house, area and business checks
• 5,394 man hours doing vehicle lockouts
• 955 traffic enforcements
• 280 DUI impoundments
• 456 school crossing guards
• issued 123 illegal parking tickets and 1,560 illegal parking warnings
• 296 funeral escorts
• 454 transports
The following volunteers contributed over 1,000 hours of service: Karl Brandt, Dennis Farace, Joe Gray, Frank Ross, Phil Rozell, Mike Smargiassi, Rich McLehose, Mike Pintinalli, Mike Tedesco and Dave Werner.
The following individuals volunteered over 1,500 hours Lyle Clark, Art Gass, Tom Harvey, Clarence Newmon and Jim Precord. Captain Peter Jensen logged in over 2,300 hours. Amazing when you consider a paid employee works 2,080 annually.
