Nominations are now being accepted to offer recognition to philanthropic leaders in our community during National Philanthropy Day, being held November 19, 2008. The Association of Fundraising Professionals Indian River Chapter is hosting its third annual awards ceremony honoring individuals and businesses who have made significant contributions to philanthropy in Indian River County. The event will be held at the Vero Beach Museum of Art. John's Island Real Estate Company is the Premiere Sponsor of the NPD Awards Ceremony and Reception.

Award categories include Outstanding Individual Philanthropist, Outstanding Corporate Philanthropist, Volunteer Fundraiser of the Year, and Unsung Hero. The nominating process is open to AFP members and nonmembers. All nonprofit agencies are encouraged to participate. Nominations must be postmarked by July 31, 2008, and forms are available by contacting Ginny Blossom via email at gblossom@indianriverlandtrust.org or by phone at 772-794-0701.

Last year's award recipients included: Outstanding Individual Philanthropist- Melvin and Nancy Goodes; Outstanding Corporate Philanthropist- Wachovia Bank; Volunteer Fundraisers of the Year- Fraulein Jaffe; and Unsung Hero- Tom and Rhonda Lowe. "National Philanthropy Day celebrates the contributions of outstanding donors, volunteers and companies who exemplify selfless dedication, community spirit and lasting impact," said Kerry Bartlett, chairperson of the event and immediate past president of AFP-IR. "It's an excellent way for nonprofits to recognize the tireless efforts of their volunteers and fundraisers."
