Jeff Smith, Assistant Tax Collector for Indian River County, is the 2008-2009 Secretary/Treasurer of the Florida Government Finance Officers Association. He was installed into office on May 21 at the Association's Annual Conference in Jacksonville. The FGFOA is a nonprofit volunteer organization that serves more than 2,700 professionals from state, county, and city governments; special districts; and private firms. Founded in 1937, it is the Finance Officers' professional resource for education, networking, leadership, and information.

Smith has been Indian River County's Assistant Tax Collector since February 2001. He previously served the County as Assistant Utilities Director and Assistant Finance Director and Staff Accountant in the Finance Department of the Clerk of the Circuit Court. He has also been Managing Director of Jeffrey Smith CPA and previously worked with KPMG Peat Marwick.

He is a graduate of University of Central Florida, a licensed Certified Public Accountant in Florida, and an FGFOA Certified Government Finance Officer. He is a member of the Government Finance Officers Association's Special Review Committee for the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), and the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants (FICPA). He also is the Immediate Past President of Exchange Club of Indian River.
