Volunteers Cook for Families In Need
Contributed by: Julia Keenan on 9/2/2008

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Vero Beach prepares dinner once a month for families at the Homeless Family Center. For the past five years members from the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship coordinate, purchase and prepare at least one meal per month.

Each month, members of the congregation donate the ingredients and provide the labor to HFC to make the meal. After receiving the ingredients from congregants, volunteers preparing the meals this month included: Liz Mayo, Gloria Durand, Kristina Pernfors, and Anne Tschinkel. On August 18 th they prepared Pasta Sausage Ragout, salad, cookies and cakes as well as Sheppard's Pie for the next day. The church has a variety of meals they prepare for the HFC residents. These meals become favorites for the residents at the Homeless Family Center.

On average 180 meals are served per day for families living at the Homeless Family Center. As food costs continue to increase assistance is needed and appreciated more than ever by the community. The staff and clients of the Homeless Family Center are grateful for the support from the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Vero Beach.
