Thai food at its finest at Siam Orchid

As an adventurous loggerhead, I am always looking forward to new dining experiences. So when passing by the Siam Orchid on Miracle Mile the other day, I knew I had to stop in to sample the Thai cuisine.

I chose takeout this particular day and was handed an extensive menu. I was surprised to see both Thai and Japanese lunch specials listed, but as I haven't had Thai in a while, I ordered from that list.

I chose the Shrimp Tempura lunch special for $8.95, and I didn't have to wait long to wait the service was fast and courteous.

The tempura was served hot with steamed white rice, lightly battered shrimp and vegetables, and I had my choice of soup or salad. For such a nominal price, there were plenty of vegetables and shrimp to feast on. I choose the salad over the soup, and it was fresh and cold, just like a loggerhead likes his greens!

While I waited for my lunch, I had the chance to peruse the menu. I noticed that Siam Orchid also offers a $6.50 Thai lunch special that includes beef, pork or chicken. The variations include baby corn, basil leaves and pepper, mixed vegetables, sweet & sour or pad Thai, to name a few. These specials also include steamed rice and soup of the day.

Sushi lunches range in price from $7.95 to $11.50 and are served with rice and miso soup or salad.

If duck is one of your favorites, you might try their basil duck, curry duck, or garlic duck lunch specials for $8.95. If seafood is a preferred taste, try the curry or garlic fish special for the same price.

One of the specials that intrigued me was the salmon mango special for $8.95. This lunch includes grilled salmon and mango with a sweet sauce. I think I'll try that on my next visit.

The Japanese lunch specials range in price from $8.95 to $10.95.
