Last summer the Friends of the Mental Health Association sponsored our Council on Aging turtle "Patches"as part of the 2006 "Overcoming Hurdles with Turtles" Turtle Trax theme. Many of our seniors participated in the design process and assisted with painting "Patches", who now resides on permanent display at the Council on Aging".
The MHA is again offering seniors the opportunity to paint a small replica turtle. This workshop will be held on Wednesday May 2nd at 9:30 a.m. in the Vero Beach Senior Center 694 14th Street Vero Beach and Wednesday May 16th at10:00 a.m. at the Sebastian Senior Center 815 Davis Street Sebastian. Miniature turtles and paint supplies will be provided. Come and enjoy the fun in painting your very own turtle to take home!
In addition to the turtle painting workshop, Beth Griffin the MHA Outreach Coordinator will present a variety of programs at the COA Senior Centers on the 1st Wednesday of the month in Vero and the 3rd Wednesday of the month in Sebastian starting in May. Topics will include "Stress in Our Lives and its Impact", which will offer solutions in dealing with emotional stress, "Why Do I Feel So Anxious?" a presentation on the anxiety that many people experience and helpful relaxation exercises and techniques; and "Medication Awareness" an especially informative session about the different roles of medication. Each program will feature an interactive game and engaging conversation. Prizes will be given out to the winners of the games!
The COA and the MHA are pleased to offer these presentations to provide information, enhance self esteem, encourage personal growth, and offer holistic approaches to maintain a healthy mind, body and spirit.
For more details call Kathleen at 469-2062 and be sure to check this column regularly for updates on this and other COA programs, activities and events.
