An Apple a Day....how about a Laugh a Day?
Contributed by: Chris Loftus on 6/17/2008

The old adage, 'An apple a day keeps the doctor away' may have some merit to it but how about 'a good laugh a day keeps your spirits alive?' When was the last time you had a good, hearty laugh? When was the last time you found putting something away in the wrong place, only to realize what you were doing and breaking out in laughter? I suggest it is time.

Did you know that it takes more muscles to frown than smile? Did you know that physiologically a good laugh is good for your heart and lungs? And so, why aren't you laughing more? Is it because you are finding there is nothing to laugh about, that life is taking the pleasure away, that you are burdened from health problems, financial problems, or personal problems? There is no doubt in today's environment and society there are increasingly more concerns about finances, life's necessities, health and security. The very basics of life as we know it are becoming more costly weekly. Where is the humor in that?

In reading about Tim Russert, the dear friend I never met, the accolades of this man are endless. Tim Russert was all of our friends and most of us never met him. And why is that? While I could list many attributes, there is one we keep hearing. Tim never lost the 'little boy wonder' of life. Tim laughed and he laughed often. He was an intelligent individual who was involved in serious issues and yet, there was his twinkle in his eye, his winsome smile and his quick quip that would bring someone else a smile or laugh.

Challenge yourself today and for the next week. Laugh. Think of the times in your life when something was so funny just the thought of it still makes you smile. If you see something today that is odd, out of the usual, smile. If you hear the laughter of a child, join in. When you see the dolphins in the lagoon swim by, smile. When you see the Red Hat ladies out in their glory, smile. They are enjoying themselves and laughing. Laughter is contagious. So join in and you may instill a good laugh in someone else. Your own laughter will be the best medicine you can take each day.
