Indian River Estates Teams Up to Help the Needy by Collecting 4,530 Pounds for The Source
ACTS company-wide food drive totals 26,000 pounds
VERO BEACH, FL , September 15, 2008 -- Residents and staff from Indian River Estates (IRE), an ACTS Retirement-Life Community in Vero Beach, recently collected 4,530 pounds of food for The Source. ACTS is a not-for profit, faith-based organization that builds, owns and manages retirement communities throughout the east coast.
"It's unfortunate how desperate area soup kitchens are for donations right now," said Indian River Estates West Executive Director Thomas Sutton. "We feel blessed to have the means to give back to those less fortunate. Residents and staff want to do it again next year," commented Executive Director George Bryan of IRE.
In total, nearly 13,000 residents and employees from ACTS locations nationwide participated in the food drive, collecting approximately 13 tons or 26,000 pounds of food that was distributed to 13 different food banks in Alabama, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.
"I am proud that our residents and employees throughout the ACTS family rallied around this effort to assist others in their local communities in such a big way," said Marvin Mashner, ACTS President and CEO.
