On September 7, 2007, the Progressive Alliance of Indian River County (PAIRC) delivered a large banner covered with heartfelt messages on bright red hearts to the Vero Beach office of Congressman Dave Weldon (15th congressional district). The messages from concerned citizens of Treasure Coast were the third batch presented to Weldon staffers and the second at his Vero Beach office.
The first collection of heartfelt messages, taken to Congressman Weldon's Melbourne office during Valentine's Day week 2007, urged him to support the safe and rapid removal of American troops from Iraq's Civil War. The second and third batches (approximately 100 red hearts each) were filled with messages of support for the troops and for their withdrawal or redeployment from Iraq.
Thus far, the group has not been able to get an appointment to meet directly with the Congressman. They have been told that appointments must be made six months in advance. Nor has Congressman Dave Weldon replied to these BRAVE HEART appeals from the people he was elected to represent. Some of his staff, while polite, have refused to have their pictures taken with the PAIRC representatives. The group plans to continue collecting and delivering these heartfelt messages until Congressman Weldon responds to the clear wishes of the people of Indian River County and the majority of the American people.
Congressman Weldon has voted with the Bush administration 95% of the time and continues to vote for increased funding for the Iraq war. This, in spite of the fact the American people, including many in Weldon's own Congressional district, overwhelming want American troops out of Iraq.
