MANY months ago, I purchased a beautiful leather sofa and loveseat from Vero Furniture Mart. Max, the owner of the store, assisted me with my purchase. I made a $260 deposit at the time of purchase. In early June, I called the store to inform them that due to a marital separation, I would not be able to complete the purchase. I understood when the saleswoman explained that my deposit could not be refunded because so much time had passed since my purchase, and the merchandise had been held in their warehouse for me all that time. I asked the salesperson to explain my situation to the owner and ask if he would consider making an exception and allow me to use the deposit funds to purchase three bed frames I needed for myself and two young sons. I told her we would be moving into a rental home as a result of the separation and needed bed frames. Max agreed to approve my purchase, butwould not refund any difference in monies. I was grateful for the generosity and felt like it was a very fair deal.
On Moving Day, my two young sons and I went to Vero Furniture Mart in our very full borrowed pick-up truck. Max and his wife helped us load the bed frames into the truck, and wished us well as we drove away. Max immediately called my cell phone and said he and his wife wished to refund our money, feeling that it was "The Right Thing To Do". I cannot describe the feeling of gratitude that overwhelmed me on the telephone. In today's world, not everyone does The Right Thing. Besides, our budget was tight, and every dollar mattered!
I have lived in Vero Beach for 4 years, and immediately upon arriving was pleasantly struck by the number of family-owned businesses that still exist in our beautiful community. Max and his family have run Vero Beach Furniture Mart for years, and they represent the true sense of community responsibility and pure generosity. I will shop there at any opportunity, and will always remember the huge gift my family received from them. Now that's kindness to the MAX! Blessings to you and your family, Max.
