This is an article from NewsMax.com. It was published Feb. 28, 2007.
A state legislator in Florida wants to put a stop to illegal aliens- no, not undocumented immigrants, but THE USE OF THE TERM " illegal alien" in official documents. (Are you kidding me? Take away freedom of speech from elected officials?)
Senator Frederica Wilson, a Democrat whose district is home to thousands of Caribbean immigrants, said: "I personally find the word 'alien' offensive when applied to individuals, especially children. An alien to me is someone from out of space." (Senator, aliens are referred to in the Holy Bible as persons not of the local surroundings. Still apropo today.)
She has introduced a bill that would bar a state agency or official from using the term. She says,"There are students in our schools whose parents are trying to become citizens and we shouldn't label them. They are immigrants, through no fault of their own, not aliens."(Sen. Wilson, if the parents of the children are applying for citizenship and that process is under way, they and their children are not "illegal aliens", they are potential citizens lawfully seeking citizenship.)
Wilson says she doesn't like the term "illegal", either.
"I like 'undocumented' better," she said.(Sen. Wilson, personal preference is just that. Just because you like the term dosen't mean We, the People should agree with you. I suggest and demand matters such as these should be put to a popular vote. You are suggesting that state officials can't even use the word in a sentence? Very frenetic, to say the least. I'd like to introduce a bill barring you from public office. You verge on being odious.
