Corporate Wellness Works
Contributed by: Bonnie Pfiester on 3/14/2006

Companies are reaping the benefits of corporate wellness programs more than ever. I recently researched businesses that encourage corporate wellness and could not believe what I found. Health screenings at Johnson and Johnson saved over $13 million dollars per year in absenteeism and health care costs. Dupont saved five dollars for every dollar invested in their “Health Horizons” program and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Indiana had a two-hundred and fifty percent return on its corporate fitness program.

If that’s not exciting enough, when Superior Coffee and Foods, a subsidiary of Sara Lee, started a wellness program for its twelve hundred employees, the company wasn’t the only one to reap the benefits. Employees showed twenty-two percent fewer hospital admissions, twenty-nine percent shorter hospital stays and forty-two percent lower expenses per admission. That not only means reduced medical claims, but happier, healthier employees. Maybe people are finally realizing that corporate wellness really is worth it!
