VERO BEACH COUNTRY CLUB HOSTS THE 62
ND ANNUAL
INDIAN RIVER GRAPEFRUIT PRO-AM GOLF TOURNAMENT
Vero Beach Country Club announces Indian River County's most prestigious and longest running golf tournament. Approximately fifty (50) teams will be participating in the 62
nd Annual Indian River Grapefruit Pro-Am Golf Tournament to be held on Saturday, December 15
th, and Sunday, December 16
th, 2007.
The golf professionals participating in the event are either club professionals or are competing on the PGA, Nationwide or Champions tours. Vero Beach Country Club Head Golf Professional, Randy Hedgecock, was on the 17
th Green at The Tesoro Club last month watching the Ginn Sur Mer Classic when Treasure Coast local and PGA Professional, Ken Duke, played through and said, "sign me up - count me in" referring to the upcoming Grapefruit Pro-Am. Ken Duke out of Palm City, FL finished 37
th on the PGA money list this year. "It's the friendships developed during the event that keeps the players coming back year after year," said Randy Hedgecock, who has been the Golf Professional and playing in the tournament at Vero Beach Country Club for 21 years.
In past years, PGA Professionals, Mark Calcavecchia, Sam Sneed, Dow Fensterwald and entertainer, Bing Crosby, played in this annual event. Notable Golf Professionals playing in this year's tournament are the 2006 defending Indian River Grapefruit Pro-Am Champion, Gene Jones, who recently placed first at the Champions Tour Qualifying event, Mike Donald, a former runner-up in the U.S. Open, Guy Boros, a former PGA Tour event winner and current Nationwide Tour player, Ken Green, a former Ryder Cup participant and Vero Beach local Sal Spallone who is currently on the Nationwide Tour. The Treasure Coast Golf Professionals include Ed Humenik, Jerry Tucker, Joe Kern, Chris Campbell, Gary Boros, Kip Byrne, Wes Lilliquist and host Professional, Randy Hedgecock.
The Indian River Grapefruit Pro-Am is open to the public free of charge. The Club and its members encourage anyone interested in golf to come out and watch this event and to take part in one of Vero Beach's favorite traditions.
