VB D-RAYS TEAM UP WITH HOMELAND SECURITY TO PROMOTE EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS
Devil Rays Encourage Fans to Take Steps to Prepare
VERO BEACH, Fla. - The Vero Beach Devil Rays are teaming up with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's
Ready Campaign to educate and encourage their fans to prepare for emergencies in their homes, businesses and communities.
This is the fifth consecutive season that Minor League Baseball is promoting emergency preparedness among their fans. The Devil Rays are part of a nationwide effort and will host their very own
Hurricane Awareness Night at Holman Stadium on Monday, June 2 to share the
Ready Campaign message.
"We appreciate the continued support of Minor League Baseball and all of the organizations that are helping us spread the
Ready message to American families such as Citizen Corps and the Boy Scouts of America," said
Ready Campaign Director Erin Streeter. "Through the assistance of these organizations, millions of baseball fans will learn how to get an emergency supply kit, make a family emergency plan and be informed about the different types of emergencies that can occur in their area."
At the Monday, June 2 Vero Beach Devil Rays game, the team will air public service announcements and will distribute the
Ready brochures to fans. Gates open at 6 p.m., and the game starts at 7 p.m.
The night will feature a mini flashlight/fan giveaway for the first 500 fans in attendance, courtesy of On Site Window Tinting, and $1 hot dogs, sodas and beer all night long. Florida Shutters, Inc., and F.V. Casano Electrical Contractor, Inc., are also sponsors of Hurricane Awareness Night.
Co-General Manager of the Vero Beach Devil Rays, Shawn Marette, says "I hope fans come out to enjoy a great baseball game and gain valuable knowledge about ways to protect their families and homes. Hopefully the information will not have to be used, but it is crucial to keep our community informed about possible disasters."
Community outreach is a priority for the Vero Beach Devil Rays, and the organization appreciates all efforts to partner with it to make the Vero Beach community a better place to live and work. The Vero Beach Devil Rays are a minor league baseball club owned and operated by the Los Angeles Dodgers, and affiliated with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. The team is a member of the Florida State League (Advance Class A) and plays at historic Holman Stadium in Vero Beach, FL.
