CAN YOU HELP SQUEEZE?

VERO BEACH, Fla. - As the Vero Beach Devil Rays 2008 season draws to a close, their time in Vero Beach comes to an end. Even after the players, coaches, and staff say their good-byes following the game on August 31, one integral member of the organization will remain in Vero Beach. Sadly he will remain unemployed...and homeless.

He will remain behind with no team to work for, no fellow fans to greet and no baseball games to cheer at. This is why the Vero Beach Devil Rays have decided to enlist the help of the community in finding the dearest member of their organization a new job... and a new home.

It saddens the Devil Rays to announce... Squeeze the mascot is up for adoption.

Since Squeeze is such a beloved member of the Rays family, it will take a little bit of work on the part of his future family to adopt him. The Vero Beach Devil Rays would like to invite anyone interested in acquiring Squeeze to write an essay describing why they would make the best home for Squeeze. This adoption call is not limited in any way. Any and all teams, schools, organizations, or causes are welcome to submit an essay.

Lexi Sanchez Receives $1500 Florida State League Scholarship

The Florida State League awarded its 2008 educational scholarships Sunday in an on-field ceremony at the Florida Marlins game in Miami, Fla. Lexi Sanchez was the chosen recipient of the award for the Vero Beach Devil Rays.

To be eligible for the scholarship, students must be an employee, a child or a grandchild of an employee of the participating club during the Florida State League season. The individual must be at least a high school junior by the 2008 fall term.

Community outreach is a priority for the Vero Beach Devil Rays, and the organization appreciates all efforts to partner with it to make the Vero Beach community a better place to live and work. The Vero Beach Devil Rays are a minor league baseball club operated by the Los Angeles Dodgers, and affiliated with the Tampa Bay Rays. The team is a member of the Florida State League (Advance Class A) and plays at historic Holman Stadium in Vero Beach, FL.
