Not many people know this, but Rugby is now also an American sport. Since 1992, the Treasure Coast Pirates Rugby Football Club has been playing men's Rugby in the area. The club's philosophy is to teach the sport to a new generation and to encourage everyone to participate in the sport, no matter the age or the fitness level. In Rugby, there are positions on the field for all varieties of people; shorter, tall, big, or small.

The Rugby Club on the Treasure Coast is the best place in the state to learn the game. The staff, including four coaches, is excellent at teaching the game and encouraging beginners. But because the club is not in one of the larger cities, new members of the club have more personalized training. In addition, all new members receive hand outs, flyers and videos to help them learn how the game is played.

The club is part of a larger umbrella group called the Florida Rugby Union. This allows the local rugby club to compete in tournaments across the state (from Miami to Gainesville). In the past year, the local club has played a range of games from playing college teams such as the University of Florida to games on the beaches of Ft. Meyers.

Another great part of the local club is that not only is it an athletic organization, but it also is social organization. The club has golf tournaments, fund raisers, cook outs and local outings to help support the club. In addition, there are associated clubs in the area for oldsters, high schoolers, college and women, so don't hesitate to come out and give the game a try, this is an organization perfectly suited for you.
