Vero Beach Moms Set Pace For Daughters
Well before sunrise on October 10, 2009 two local mothers and their daughters were preparing themselves for the Publix Family Fitness Weekend Duathlon (a two-sport event) at Cypress Gardens, Florida. Originally this event was to be a triathlon (swim, bike, run) but was reorganized as a duathlon because amoeba-infested waters presented a possible health threat. A running event was substituted for the swim. The event then consisted of a one-mile run, a ten-mile bike race, and a five-kilometer run. Stephanie Stawara and Karen Schlitt both completed the entire event and then proudly witnessed their daughters successfully compete in the Sprint Kids Race. This youth event also included a run, a bike race, and another run. For mom Stawara, this was her very first multiple-sport competition and she set a fine example for her girls.
The daughters participating were: Lilla Stawara(12), StellaRose Stawara(8), Chloë Schlitt(10), and Kendall Schlitt(8).
