INDIAN RIVER MALL NOTES RECORD ATTENDANCE
Contributed by: Robyn Hankerson on 4/29/2008

Area's largest nonprofit showcase brings more than 40 local organizations to partake in event

VERO BEACH, FL (April 29, 2008) - Indian River Mall recently noted a record attendance as a result of the mall's first-ever Giving Fair, hosted in conjunction with the United Way, Cultural Council of Indian River County and Association of Fundraising Professionals - Indian River Chapter. This successful event showcased more than 40 area nonprofit organizations, and educated the public on the many services available to them. Plus, Lauren Kenney of St. Helen's Catholic School was selected as the winner of the "What Giving Means to Me" poster contest.

"We are extremely pleased with the overall success of this event that brought many community members to the mall to support our local organizations," said Ursula Gunter, Director of Mall Marketing, Indian River Mall. "It was such a great opportunity for residents to enjoy learning about the resources available to them and utilize this chance to give back to these organizations that are a staple in our community."

Attendees lined the mall to show their spirit of giving by making donations to charities, signing up as volunteers, purchasing tickets to upcoming events and learning about the services provided by the different organizations. Even youth were encouraged to partake in the spirit by enjoying face painting and balloon art by Darley the Clown, and entering the "What it Means to Give" poster contest for kids in grades K-5. Lauren Kenney, who submitted a poster adorned with hearts that read "I give my heart to those in need," was selected as the winner and will receive a $50 Waldenbooks gift card.

"It was great to partner with Indian River Mall to host this amazing event," said Mary Jayne Kelly, Executive Director, Cultural Council of Indian River County. "It was powerful to witness our community come out and participate in this effort that truly embodied the spirit of giving."

Participating organizations included Boy Scouts of America - Indian River District, Boys and Girls Clubs of Indian River County, Childcare Resources, Children's Home Society, Hibiscus Children's Center, Homeless Family Center, Senior Resource Association, Sun Up, United Way and the VNA.

With the success of this event, Indian River Mall has already begun planning another Giving Fair for January 2009, with the intention of expanding the event and continuing to support the Vero Beach community.
