RCT Camps Offer Performance Opportunities
Contributed by: Linda Downey on 6/4/2008

Riverside Children's Theatre begins its summer camp experiences on June 9, offering something for all ages from 5 to 17! In its 28th season of performing arts instruction, RCT programs provide performance opportunities for all ages, from the Friday Performing Arts Day Camp showcases for ages 5 to 7 to the Rascals' Revue on the Anne Morton Theatre stage for ages 8 to 12, to the Summer Theatre Conservatory showcases for ages 11 and up.

Performing Arts Day Campers will present a new show each Friday for parents and friends, all based on the weekly theme. Director Tina Ulrich has chosen 'Pirates & Princesses' for the week of June 23, 'Heroes & Adventurers' for the week of June 30, 'Villains' for the week of July 7, 'Superheroes' for the week of July 14 and 'Monsters & Wild Things' for the week of July 21. PADC teachers Yvonne Miller, Suzy Reiser and Debbie Fox will add movement, music, scenery and props to the drama elements in the show. PADC is offered Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon. The weekly fee is $85 which includes a snack.

A Riverside tradition for 28 years, the Rascals' Revue has expanded to morning and afternoon sessions from June 23 through July 11. Performances are July 11 at 1:30 and 7 p.m. and July 12 at 1:30 p.m. This year's Rascals includes the full length musical Disney's The Aristocats as well as scenes, music and mime. Rascals' directors include Stephen Wuycheck, Kevin Quillinan, Debbie Quillinan, Yvonne Miller, Laura Matthews and Graciela Binaghi. Campers may take part in morning or afternoon sessions though space is limited in the afternoon session. Call the children's theatre for availability. Rascals' weekly fee is $285 for a half day session. Lunch supervision is provided full day campers.

For experienced actors who want to be challenged, RCT's Summer Theatre Conservatory presents two options. The Stage Acting Intensive is for actors ages 11 to 14. Instructor Stephen Wuycheck promises participants will work harder and achieve more than they ever have. A showcase will be held for parents and friends the final session. The Conservatory Film Intensive will be headed by veteran film and stage actress Kelly Dennehy who most recently has worked at the Bert Reynolds Institute. She will offer on camera acting techniques as well as provide advise on auditions. Each participant will make their own audtion DVD. The Film Intensive is open to ages 13 to 17. The Conservatory runs July 14-25 with the Stage Acting session from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and the Film session 2 to 5 p.m. Fees are $125 (Stage Acting Intensive) and $150 (Film Intensive) for the two week sessions.

High production values, an experienced staff of youth theatre professionals with student/instructor ratio averaging 1 to 4 and financial aid available to qualifying families make RCT the place to be this summer. For specific information and availability, call 772-234-8052.
