At Sebastian River High School, a new class of seniors has come. This class has some of the best minds and the most unique characters that the school has ever seen. Just in the IB program alone, the most strenuous and intellectually demanding of all Sebastian's programs, the amount of diversity is both surprising and interesting. In this selective group of students there exists a wide variety of interests and personalities, and through these differences these students have been able to accomplish some relatively impressive things.
The following are examples of students currently enrolled in the IB program at Sebastian River High (these students were chosen at random from a certain group of students):
Alyssa Allen: Alyssa isn't your ordinary band student; she can play many instruments (the saxophone and oboe, to name a few), and is almost always reading.
Denny Delp: Denny is a soccer player on the school team. In addition to this, he is an eagle scout and a leader in the Student Council.
Sean Ferguson: Sean plays soccer as well, but also was in the SRHS Drama Troupe for two years and judged a local science fair.
Rachel Gomez: Rachel is another artistic soul; she loves art and acting. She also is a member of the student council and the "Yes I Can!" Club, which helps students with special needs.
Molly Haight: Molly has a large interest in journalism and is the head editor for the Inlet Magazine as well as a leader in the Student Council.
Mansi Joshi: Mansi Joshi is a lover of the arts; She is renowned for her position in the school chorus and her artistic ability, and is also an award winning actress with the SRHS Drama Troupe.
Madison Kirby: Madison is a devotee to the school's drama troupe (she has received lead parts since her freshman year and has done most every play with them), but she also is on the school Student Council and Masterminds team.
Cory Raynor: Cory is the technical assistant at Sebastian River High School, and is known by many for his immense dedication to this position.
Catherine Tallant:Catherine is a former ROTC member with an interest in law and anthropology. In addition to this, she is a member of multiple different clubs at the school and is always up for a lively debate over a controversial subject.
These students are all very different from one another, and their diversity has been reflected through many of the things they have accomplished. This IB class has met many times and, through teamwork, have passed their first year of IB exams. Through group study and different approaches, they have done a rather impressive thing. In addition, this group has all participated in a Community Service Project called "Art for All", which put on a play near the end of the school year incorporating Special Needs students. With the experience with the "Yes I Can!" club brought by the Gomez sisters (Rachel and Samantha), the drama skills evident with Mansi, Madison, Sean, Rachel and Jeffrey Liguori, and the artistic skills of Samantha Gomez, Denny and most every student, they put on a one act show (with technical work done entirely by Cory Raynor and Abel Thomas). All proceeds from the show were donated to the "Yes I Can!" club.
The students are planning to continue the project, as well as start some new ones (ideas being spread around are a gaming tournament with the proceeds being donated to charity and a dodge ball competition). There is no doubt that, with such great minds and different opinions, greatness is bound to come out of the Sebastian River High School class of 2009.
