United States Power Squadron(USPS) University - Seminar Series
These will be held in Vero Beach. They are sponsored by the Vero Beach Power Squadron(VBPS). The VBPS is set to go on another one of their 2008 goals.
My wife and I invited our neighbor Elaine to go with us to the Friday night social at the VBPS building. During that event I was approached by the Education Officer Lt/C (P/C) Daniel A. Thomas, JN, who explained that its time to get the ball rolling on the NEW Seminar Series for the local boaters.
He further explained that he has the educational materials which he requested from USPS and he has instructors lined up to teach the different classes. The seminars are are scheduled for evenings from 7pm to 9 pm on Wednesday nights.
The location is the VBPS building at 301 Acacia Road in Vero Beach ( next to the Barber bridge at the MacWilliams Boat Basin). The cost per class is $30.
This text is from USPS. USPS University is here with new programs targeted to a range of boaters and types of boating. The hallmark of this concept is the Seminar Series. These short seminars are targeted to specific topics and needs with a two-hour format, and valuable take-away guides. Each seminar provides credits toward the soon to be released Boat Operator Certification program, and credit toward elective courses. The first seven of these seminars are available now.
· Using VHF (VHF/DSC Marine) Radio
· Using GPS
· How to Use a Chart
· Onboard Weather Forecasting
· Boat Handling under Power
· Sail Trim and Rig Tuning
· Paddle Smart
For more information call 772-231-9543 and leave a message. If you prefer to speek with someone right away you can call Mr. D. Thomas, Educational Officer at 772-978-1701 or Assistant Educational Officer Mr. J. Leitz at 772-465-2232.
