Dr. Gary Chapman tells us in his book,
The Five Languages of Love
, that there are various ways that we can feel loved. Words of Affirmation, Quality Time, Receiving Gifts, Acts of Service, and Physical Touch. Most of us show that we love someone by doing one of these "Languages of Love". Chances are you are showing someone you love them by showering that person with a language of love that you would want for yourself.
I have voluntered (15 years) for the Girl, Cub and Boy Scouts and in many other opportunities where I can make a difference in a child's life. My next adventure is to become involved and give service to SUN-UP, a new residential facility for families and kids with developmental disabilities here in Indian River County. Many times I find myself at a costal cleanup, or at a friends house, helping paint, cleaning up their kitchen, pulling up weeds, laying down bricks to make a patio, or walking their dog (and scooping the p---). If you want something organized, I'll jump right in. Many years have been spent performing Acts of Service, for the community, for my friends and family.
Like most of you, I work full time also, I attend college in the evening at FAU full time working towards my degree in Exceptional Student Education with an autism endorsement. I work during the day with students who have autsim at a local school and I love my job. Being a single mother of 3 teenagers doesn't qualify me for anything special, except that it qualifies me as the expert in the area of Service.
Now, wouldn't it be nice for me to
"feel the love"
and have my house cleaned. After all "ACTS of SERVICE" is the Language of Love where I will feel the love.
