The Port St. Lucie Business Women recently presented three scholarships for the fall semester at its September 17 meeting held at Bistro on the Green in Port St. Lucie. The Port St. Lucie Business Women/Kay Schaeffer Memorial Scholarship is an annual award of $2,500 for tuition and books to women who plan to, or are enrolled, at Indian River State College (IRSC). The Port St. Lucie Business Women/Strelsa Schreiber Professional Development Scholarship Fund also is an annual award for tuition and books to a female student who is pursuing a bachelor's degree.
Clara Arango and Jessica Hooper each received the Port St. Lucie Business Women/Kay Schaeffer Memorial Scholarship. Arango, who is originally from Colombia, is working on her Associate of Science degree in Business. She will continue at IRSC and complete her bachelor's degree in Organizational Management. Ultimately, she plans to get a Master's degree in International Banking.
Hooper is pursuing a degree in psychology and studying to become proficient in Spanish. She is interested in civil law and will attend law school after graduation from IRSC. Once her education is complete she wants to focus on defending the innocent and less fortunate.
Julie LeCluse was the recipient of the Port St. Lucie Business Women/Strelsa Schreiber Memorial Scholarship and also received $2,500. She is working on a bachelor's degree in education and wants to teach middle school math. Currently she works at Mariposa Elementary as an ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) paraprofessional.
"The Port St. Lucie Business Women are pleased to be able to help these women pursue their educational dreams and accomplish their goals," said Rhea Cemer, Program Director, St. Lucie West Campus, Indian River State College and Port St. Lucie Business Women member.
