Greenwood Development Corp. Donates $35,000
Contributed by: Krista Garofalo on 8/30/2007

Greenwood Development Corporation of Florida, Inc., has donated $34,645.63 to United Way of St. Lucie County, Inc. The funds are the interest proceeds of moneys used for pre-contract "reservations" for luxury condominium units at The Meridian at NorthHutchinsonIsland, which Greenwood has opted to delay due to current market conditions. While Florida law permits developers to retain such interest proceeds, Greenwood has long made it a practice to donate them to local charities.

Greenwood local counsel and United Way Board Member Dennis Corrick of Dean, Mead, Minton & Zwemer presented the Greenwood check this week to United Way CEO Karen Knapp on behalf of the company. "I'm proud to represent a company like Greenwood that routinely does things like this for the benefit of its community," Corrick said. "We sincerely appreciate Greenwood's unsolicited agreement to contribute the interest on this fund, and invite other companies to make similar provisions in their agreements," said Knapp.

Greenwood's generous donation will help to jump-start the 2007/08 Annual Campaign, which officially kicks off on October 9, 2007. United Way VP of Communications Michelle King says the funds will be used to help the United Way of St. Lucie County further its mission to provide a greater impact on areas of community need. "The United Way is committed to improving lives and sustained change in community conditions," King added. "Results aren't just measured by how much money we raise or distribute; we look at our overall impact in the specific areas that we've targeted and the lives and communities we have improved. That's what matters."
