To many, youth sports is just that, youths engaging in a sporting activity. When is youth sports something different? The organization that manages the youth sports programs in Jupiter and Tequesta must continually define the idea of youth sports in order to meet the needs of the kids. What has become a terrific recreational program for such sports as baseball, softball, volleyball and soccer has also breed another level of youth sports participants, athletes whose dedication and desire have enabled them to master the fundamentals and whose abilities, talent and persistence are challenged through the competitive sports programs that have emerged due to demand.
The management of the recreational and competitive sports programs has always been handled based on a philosophy that serves the recreational sports best which in turn has hindered growth and potential in the competitive leagues. The competitive leagues are seeking a broader interpretation of the charter and needs the support of not only the membership, but the community. We will be meeting this Thursday to discuss the ideas and actions that will bring this organization together.
The Declaration of Independence states:
Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security. Such has been the patient sufferance of these Colonies; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former Systems of Government. The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States.
While the American Revolution has a greater significance to most than a small sports program, the ideas are the same. The government of our competitive sports has not treated these programs and these kids with equality. The old guard refuses to offer an audience to hear our ideas and solutions.
Your support on April 17, 2008 at the Jupiter Community Park North Room starting at 7:00 p.m. will speak volumes. If you have a child that played any youth sports in Jupiter last year under JTAA, you are a member and we would like to hear your input.
